1. Introduction

The dish-type liquid limit machine is used to measure the liquid limit of the soil to classify the soil. The groover is used to form a groove in the soil, and then the soil dish is raised to allow the dish to fall several times. When the soil groove is closed to an appropriate degree, the moisture content of the sample is measured. Designed and manufactured in accordance with the GB/T21997.1-2008 standard, meeting SL 237-1999 “Geotechnical Test Regulations”, JTG E40-2007 “Highway Geotechnical Test Regulations”, TB10102-2010 “Railway Engineering Geotechnical Test Regulations”, GB/T50123-2019 “Standards for Geotechnical Test Methods”, ASTM D4318 “Standard Test Methods for Liquid Limit of Soil” and other method standards. Consistency limits (LL and PL) are important for understanding the stress history and general properties of construction soils. Estimation of the plasticity index (LL-PL) is important for classifying soils, especially in highly expansive clays.
